October 8, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Freshmen in the Warrington College of Business Administration will compete in the final round of the Warrington Welcome/Students In Free Enterprise Business Ethics (SIFE) Case Competition at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 in Bryan Hall Room 232. This will be the culmination of two weeks preparing their solutions to a business case which they presented to their Warrington Welcome classes during the week of Oct. 13.

This will be the seventh year of the case competition. During that time, over 1,500 freshmen business students have participated in the competition allowing them to practice teamwork, leadership and communication skills necessary for them to succeed in the workforce.

“The Warrington Welcome Ethics Case Competition gets students out of their comfort zone early in their experience at UF. I was challenged to utilize and develop the teamwork, presentation and networking skills that are important to success in business,” said Jebi Mathew, a fourth year accounting student and past Warrington Welcome/SIFE Ethics Case Competition participant.

Students are challenged to work as a team to come up with a creative and ethical solution to a hypothetical dilemma given to them in the business case. The University of Florida Students in Free Enterprise team is co-hosting the event with General Electric and CHEP. The grand prize is $500 and second place is $250. All the teams that make it to the final round will present before a judges panel comprised of local business owners and UF professors.
