Event at UF offers latest information on security for information technology

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Attention information technology professionals: If security is a concern for you, the ITSA Day Conference can help.

The UF Information Technology Security Awareness Day will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Reitz Student Union Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the University of Florida Office of the Chief Information Officer and will be hosted by the UF IT Security Team.

Security experts from Intelguardians, Raytheon SI, Forensic Strategy Services and Agile Risk Management will present popular security issues, including Web application security and digital forensics.

ITSA Day is targeted at professional IT workers at the University of Florida and people in education, government and business. The conference is free and open to the public. No advanced registration is required.

Speakers include Forensic Strategy Services LLC President Scott Moulton, who began his forensic computer career by specializing in rebuilding hard drives for investigative purposes. Moulton has rebuilt hard drives for both murder and corporate fraud investigations and civil proceedings.

Also speaking will be Matthew M. Shannon, the chief software architect of F-Response, a solution to remote computer forensics, incident response and e-Discovery, which is used by governments, law enforcement agencies, and private industry. Shannon has worked for ExxonMobil, KPMG LLP and United Technologies and has presented for the U.S. Secret Service and at DEFCON 11.

Software engineer and former UF engineer Jordan Wiens’ presentation is called “How not to secure a Web application: Or, Think like a Hacker.” Wiens, who worked as a senior network security engineer at the University of Florida, prefers breaking code to making code.

Ending the conference will be Kevin Johnson, a senior security analyst with Intelguardians who has performed security services for Fortune 100 companies and contributes to a large number of open source security projects.

Johnson has presented to organizations such as Infragard, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and the University of Florida.
