Construction expected to impact Newberry Road Traffic on Thursday, Oct. 7

October 6, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Newberry Road (State Road 26) is scheduled to be reduced to one eastbound lane between NW 43rd Street and NW 48th Boulevard, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Office, traffic is expected to be significantly impacted while a layer of material designed to prevent future depressions will be placed over 600 feet of the roadway. The lane closure is scheduled to last until approximately 7:30 p.m.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes as delays are expected because of multiple lanes of traffic merging to one lane. The Florida Department of Transportation suggests that Archer Road (State Road 24) be used for motorists driving toward the University of Florida, VA Medical Center, Shands and downtown Gainesville.

If rain is forecast for Thursday Oct. 9, the construction work will be moved to Wednesday, Oct. 8.
