Clinton adviser to speak at fall convocation Thursday

WHO: Douglas Band, adviser to former President Bill Clinton; Paul D’Anieri, dean, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

WHAT: Band will present the keynote address at the 2008 Fall Convocation, organized by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The convocation honors outstanding UF students and faculty from across the university. At the ceremony, National Merit, National Achievement, Lombardi Scholars, Community College Transfer Scholars and CLAS Scholars are recognized.

BACKGROUND: Born and raised in Sarasota, Fla., Band is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in English. He later received master’s and law degrees from Georgetown University. Since 1995, he has worked for President Clinton, first as a special assistant to the president in the Office of Advance and later as the president’s aide. Band’s current duties involve advising and counseling Clinton, overseeing the operation of the Clinton Foundation and office, and handling his business transactions.
