University to remain open today; housing check-in still suspended

August 19, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida will remain open and will operate on a normal schedule today as forecasts for Tropical Storm Fay indicate the storm will not have a major impact on the Gainesville area. The university will send out another message by the end of today advising about Wednesday’s plan.

However, as previously announced, residence hall check-in will be suspended from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday. University officials believe weather conditions in certain parts of the state will be too dangerous for travel during that time.

Preview will continue as scheduled for today and Wednesday. Anyone who was unable to Tuesday morning session should contact the Dean of Students Office at pguest@dso.ufl.edu.

Further storm information can be found on UF’s tropical weather update page, http://www.ufl.edu/weather/hurricane/updates.html.
