University of Florida student housing check-in to be suspended

August 18, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida officials are continuing to monitor the track of Tropical Storm Fay.

A decision as to whether to close campus is expected by midday Tuesday, and notification of that decision will be posted on the UF home page and sent to students, faculty and staff via e-mail and text messaging. The university community is reminded to check the UF home page for any announcements regarding Tropical Storm Fay.

In addition, the UF Department of Housing and Residence Education has suspended residence hall check-in from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Thursday. University officials believe weather conditions will be too dangerous for travel during that time. Students who are already checked in should plan to remain in their residence halls. Additional housing-related information can be found at www.housing.ufl.edu/housing/news_weather.html.

Also, Day 1 of Preview, the program orientation for new students, will be held as scheduled on Tuesday, beginning with check-in at 8 a.m. The Dean of Students Office will make adjustments to the two-day program as needed based on continuing developments with Tropical Storm Fay. Those unable to attend the Tuesday morning session should contact the Dean of Students Office at pguest@dso.ufl.edu.
