July 29, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Classic Albums Live presents some of rock’s best albums as they were recorded, note for note and cut for cut. Recently added to Classic Albums Live’s performance roster was “Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon.” They will perform at 7:30 p.m. on August 14 at the Phillips Center.

The goal of Classic Albums Live is to capture “absolutely every detail” of some of rock’s greatest albums. The musicians, pulled from among Canada’s best, do not attempt to dress up like the original band members or mimic them in any way. Instead, they perform the album as it was recorded in such detail that when people close their eyes they think they are listening to the real artists.

Based in Toronto, Classic Albums Live has performed throughout Canada and the U.S. Along with Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” they have also produced “live album” experiences of Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen’s, the Rolling Stones’, The Beatles, Supertramp and Pink Floyd.

More than eight musicians will appear in Classic Albums ive’s “Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon.” In addition to performing works from the album, the group also will perform other Pink Floyd classics.

Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” released in 1973, was the band’s most successful album. The album holds the record for spending the most time on the Billboard charts, and it spent 14 years on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart, the longest of any album. Considered by many to be Pink Floyd’s defining work, it is frequently ranked by music critics and writers as one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time.
