Section of campus loses power for some 30 minutes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — UF officials were still working Tuesday morning to determine what caused a power outage that affected the northeastern section of campus.

The outage, which started around 11 a.m. and lasted about 30 minutes, affected everything from Gale Lemerand Drive east and from Museum Drive north, said David O’Brien, assistant vice president for the Physical Plant division. He said a main feeder line from Progress Energy, which supplies UF with electricity, malfunctioned, but the cause of that problem was unknown. Physical Plant workers were able to bypass the feeder line to restore power but were still troubleshooting to figure out what caused the line to go down, O’Brien said.
