UF honors faculty, advisers at annual banquet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida recognized outstanding faculty and advisers Thursday evening at the annual Faculty Awards Banquet in Emerson Alumni Hall.

Universitywide teacher of the year awards went to:

  • Christine Stopka, College of Health and Human Performance
  • Sevan Terzian, College of Education

Stopka teaches in the adapted physical activity master’s program. Terzian is an associate professor in the School of Teaching and Learning.

Universitywide adviser of the year awards went to:

  • Kari S. Ward, Warrington College of Business Administration
  • Lisa A. House, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences

Ward is an adviser in the undergraduate programs office. Prior to her position in the college of business administration, Ward served as an adviser in the College of Engineering. House is a professor and director of the Florida Agricultural Market Research Center.

Lynn B. Bailey from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences was also recognized at the banquet as the Teacher-Scholar of the Year. Bailey is a professor in the department of food science and human nutrition in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. For more than 30 years, she has focused her research on folic acid/folate and its effects on fetal development.

The Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars also inducted its newest members: Sanford Berg, Oscar Crisalle and William Logan. Berg is a professor in the department of economics in the Warrington College of Business. Crisalle is a professor of chemical engineering in the College of Engineering. Logan is an English professor in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
