UF Department of Housing announces 2008-2009 rental rates

April 3, 2008

UF residence hall rental rates will increase $65 per student per semester across the board for Fall 2008 and Spring 2009. This represents a 3.4 percent increase for an air conditioned double room.

The rental increase represents $50 a semester towards the facility improvement fund and $15 a semester towards increased operational expenses. The Department of Housing and Residence Education staff is aggressively moving forward on renovations and repairs of all facilities. Operational costs include projected increases in utilities including electricity, steam, chilled water, drinking water, sewage, and storm water.

In graduate and family housing apartments, rental rates were restructured from 36 different rental rates to 18. This rate re-structuring derived sufficient additional revenue to cover anticipated facility improvement costs and increased operational costs.

Budget committees comprised of students and staff developed the 2008-2009 Department of Housing & Residence Education Budget Proposal, which was presented to the Inter-Residence Hall Association, the Village Mayor’s Council and the UF Campus Student Housing Committee before submission to the Vice President for Student Affairs. The budget proposal was then presented to the UF Board of Trustees for final approval on March 13 and 14.
