P.K. Nair receives honorary doctorate from Spain

The Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Spain, has honored UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences researcher P.K. Nair with a doctor honoris causa degree for his contributions to the development of global agroforestry.

Nair received the award at a colorful ceremony at the 500-year-old institution’s “Salon Noble del Colegio de Fonseca” on April 1. As a pioneer in agroforestry research, Nair also has been named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America and the Crop Science Society of America. He won the Humboldt Prize in 2006 and has earned honorary doctor of science degrees from three other universities: Kyoto, Japan, in 2002; Kumasi, Ghana, in 2005 and Guelph, Ontario, Canada, in 2006.

Nair is a distinguished professor with UF’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation.
