Kaplan named Fulbright Scholar for 2009

John Kaplan, College of Journalism and Communications professor, has been named a Fulbright Scholar for 2009 by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB). During his spring semester 2009 sabbatical, he will be based at Hong Kong Baptist University. At HKBU, Kaplan will teach a class on international journalism, do research on diabetes awareness and social responsibility in media, as well as serve as an advisor to the university’s ongoing Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop series.

Kaplan is a former Pulitzer Prize winner who came to the university in 1999. He has been named the UF International Educator of the Year for Senior Faculty, and has been awarded a University of Florida Research Foundation Professorship. For his work in advancing internationalization of the campus and curriculum, he was named a Distinguished International Educator. He also has been selected as the College of Journalism and Communications Teacher of the Year, and Researcher of the Year.
