"Voices for Peace" Hiroshima-Nagasaki nuclear bomb exhibition

March 6, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the first cities to experience the horror of nuclear weapons. Both were instantly devastated, and hundreds of thousands of lives were lost. The Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation and its advocacy organization, Mayors for Peace, are sending a delegation to the United States to mark the 63rd anniversary of the dropping of the nuclear bomb in Hiroshima, Japan, on Aug. 6, 1945.

“Voices for Peace: The Legacy of Hiroshima & Nagasaki” is a series of events hosted by the University of Florida in conjunction with the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Mayors for Peace. The events are taking place now through March 14 in the Reitz Student Union.

This series is sponsored by the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Mayors for Peace, Reitz Union, Dean of Students Office, University of Florida Libraries, Department of African and Asian Languages and Literatures, University of Florida International Center, Asian Studies/NCTA, Reitz Union Board, Asian American Student Union, Asian Graduate Student Organization and the Japanese Club.
