Open forum committee to present recommendations, seek comment

March 17, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Ad Hoc Committee on a Civil, Safe and Open Environment will hold a public forum Wednesday evening to present its draft recommendations to the university community and to seek public comment.

The committee, which was formed last year after a question-and-answer session with U.S. Sen. John Kerry was interrupted by a scuffle between a student and university police, was created to review university police protocols, university and ACCENT event-management practices and community conduct policies and to recommend changes if necessary.

The committee comprises five faculty members and four students.

The forum will give faculty, students and the public a chance to comment on the committee’s draft recommendations before they are submitted to UF President Bernie Machen. The committee also will accept written comments.

The forum will take place between 6 and 7:30 p.m. in Holland Hall Room 355C.
