Newberry Road construction may affect university travel

March 15, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida has been asked to help communicate a Newberry Road construction project that may impact students, faculty and staff.

Beginning on March 17, the outside eastbound lane of Newberry Road (State Road 26) between Northwest 43rd and 46th Streets will be closed weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., as crews stabilize a depression which has caused dips in the roadway. Work is expected to last between four and eight weeks, depending on weather and other unforeseen conditions. Once the ground is stabilized, the area will be leveled and repaved. Motorists should expect delays due to slow-moving, merging traffic. Northwest 8th Avenue can be used as an alternate route to avoid the congestion.
