FCHP hosts lecture on campus alcohol issues

February 21, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida researchers will unveil the results of research into drinking on football game days at a Feb. 28 lecture.

Virginia Dodd and Tavis Glassman will present “Campus Alcohol Issues: Alcohol consumption on Game Days,” discussing the findings from a 2006 football game day survey as well as the results from related focus groups conducted during the 2006-2007 school year.

The lecture, a continuation of the Florida Center for Health Promotion lecture series, will take place at 3 p.m. in the Stevens Reading Room 240 of the Florida Gym.

Dodd is an associate professor in the department of health education and behavior; Glassman is the coordinator for alcohol and other drug prevention from the Student Health Care Center.

Dodd and Glassman will discuss whether the theory of planned behavior, which explores the relationship between behavior and beliefs, attitudes and intentions, increases the understanding of alcohol consumption on game day among college students. In addition, the lecturers will discuss what makes drinking on game day unique from other social occasions and if responses differ by gender.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
