Get creative in 2008 at Harn Museum art classes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Learning something new is one of the most-listed New Year’s resolutions, and the Harn Museum is helping people keep their resolutions with a variety of January art classes for adults and children taught by leading regional artists. Classes also make great gifts for the creative person on your list.

Well-known Gainesville artist Eleanor Blair is leading a six-session Oil Painting class beginning Jan. 10 for adults with some experience in oil painting. The class will include a meeting at the artist’s downtown studio during Art Walk on Jan. 25. Cost is $170 and the materials are available through the instructor.

Gainesville artist Linda Pence is leading a six-session Introduction to Watercolor class beginning Jan. 17. Adult participants will learn the fundamentals of watercolor painting with this talented Gainesville artist. Cost is $125.

University of Florida sculpture graduate Erin Curry will teach adult participants the basics of sculpture during a six-session Introduction to Sculpture class beginning Jan. 20. Cost is $125.

Christine Brundige, an artist and educator with the School Board of Alachua County, will lead a Monotype Workshop on Jan. 26. During the one-session class, adult participants will learn the techniques of series printing on paper or fabric. Cost is $85.

“World Tour Through the Harn: Art of Africa” will take children through a fascinating journey through the art of Africa as they make masks, stamped cloths, weavings and animal sculptures during the four-session class beginning Jan. 26. Cost is $135 plus a $15 materials fee.
