January 1, 2008

Shelley MeyerThousands of Gator fans showed support for their team at the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1. Pre-game festivities included the Fanfest Gator Jamboree, sponsored by the UF Alumni Association. Special appearances included President Bernie Machen and the “first lady” of football, Shelley Meyer (pictured at left). In addition, a mobile tradeshow display highlighted some of UF’s inventions/research such as Gatorade, Temperature Management System (TMS) shoulder pads, the self-driving vehicle, “NaviGator,” created by the College of Engineering and a model of the world’s largest telescope, representing a unique partnership of UF’s department of Astronomy with Spain and Mexico.

There were ample photo opportunities with live alligators provided by SeaWorld.
