Visiting pianist and UF faculty member, Gila Goldstein, to perform recital on Oct. 12

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Israeli pianist, Gila Goldstein, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the University of Florida’s University Auditorium, located on Newell Drive at the corner of Stadium Road. The recital is free and open to the public. The program will include musical pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn, Schubert/Liszt, Prokofiev and more.

Goldstein, visiting assistant professor of piano, is teaching this fall semester at the School of Music as a sabbatical replacement of the piano chair, Boaz Sharon. Goldstein is known around the world as a versatile musician with unique artistry and soulful interpretations. Her playing has often been described as profound, electrifying and sensual. Gila has performed as a solo artist and a collaborative pianist throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Southeast Asia and Israel.

A native of Israel, Goldstein is an alumna of the University of Tel-Aviv’s Academy of Music and the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She is the leading specialist in the piano music of Israel’s national composer Paul Ben-Haim (d. 1984) and has recorded two volumes of his piano and chamber music on the Centaur label. This past September, she performed his monumental piano concerto with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in Israel. She serves on the board of directors of the American Liszt Society and the founder-president of its NY/NJ chapter. She is the artistic director of the Trail Mix Concert Series in upstate NY and a member of the faculty at the Montclair State University’s John J. Cali School of Music in NJ.
