UF Concert Choir performs opera favorites on Oct. 28

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The College of Fine Arts School of Music pays tribute to some of the most highly acclaimed and world-renowned “Spectacular Moments in Opera: Most Loved Choruses, Overtures and Arias” at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 28, at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Florida.

The program features a collection of universal opera favorites including musical masterpieces from 14 operas, ranging from Bizet’s Carmen to Verdi’s Macbeth, and the work of nine talented and famed composers: Mascagni, Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, Smetana, Saint-Saens, Wagner, Mussorgsky and Boito.

The UF Concert Choir, Gainesville Civic Chorus and Gainesville Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with School of Music professors, Elizabeth Graham, soprano, and Anthony Offerle, baritone, all under the baton of conductor Will Kesling, a professor in the School of Music and director of choral activities. This unique town-gown collaboration provides the UF and Gainesville communities a chance to enjoy the beautiful sounds of its many local and talented musicians and to appreciate exhilarating productions of some of the world’s best opera highlights.
