GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Have your kids still not decided what they want to be for Halloween this year? Let them try their hands at being chemists during the Halloween Molecular Mania from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at The Oaks Mall. Hosted by the University of Florida’s Center for Catalysis in celebration of National Chemistry Week, the event is free and open to the public.

Children of all ages are invited to participate in a fun day of interactive chemistry experiments, such as imploding soda cans, crystal gardens and Halloween slime. The event is co-sponsored by the American Chemical Society’s Florida Section, Airgas and Thermo Fisher Scientific. It will be held in the courtyard near Dillard’s.

“It will be an interactive and fun learning experience intended to educate children about the wonderful world of chemistry and raise public awareness of the scientific achievements taking place in our community,” said event organizer Adam Veige, an assistant professor of chemistry. “We hope to inspire young students to pursue a career in science.”
