The University Galleries announces public reception for three exhibits

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The College of Fine Arts School of Art and Art History will host a public reception from 7-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12, to celebrate the current exhibitions on display at The University Galleries.

The gallery reception will include three world-class exhibitions, a lecture, food, and live bluegrass music from The Peyton Brothers performing in the College of Fine Arts Courtyard. Museum Studies graduate assistants will lead docent tours of the exhibits.

Focus Gallery will be the site of the 5 p.m. lecture, featuring “Up in Smoke: A Dying Breed” led by artist Randy Batista and Steven B. Pokorny, an assistant professor of the College of Health and Human Performance, whose research focuses upon tobacco abuse.

The members preview party for the exhibit “Just Suppose” will begin at 6 p.m. in the University Gallery. The artists, Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor, will be present.

Grinter Gallery’s cultural exhibit, “A Private Eye: Latin American Prints from Efrain Barradas Collection,” will also be open to members and the public.

The reception is sponsored in part by Emiliano’s Cafe, Dorn’s Liquor and Wine Warehouse, the Swamp Restaurant and University Gallery members.
