GAINESVILLE, Fla. — “Ground Truth: Evidence of Paris Through Drawing and Digital Media” will be on display in the Focus Gallery Fine Arts Building C at the University of Florida from Oct. 29 to Dec. 7. A public reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov.16.

The exhibit is a selection of work by students enrolled in the School of Art and Art History’s Interdisciplinary Studio course at the Paris Research Centre during May 2007. The landscape of Paris has been the muse for many great artists who found inspiration in its collection of stories, its ability to be a memory of itself, and for its rich, diverse culture.

In this course team-taught by Lauren Garber Lake and Katerie Gladdys, students investigated the old and the new city, weaving the past and the present through the physicality of walking, experiencing, and reflecting in the tradition of the flaneaur. Physical engagement with a place through immersion and observation became a catalyst for developing a methodology for knowing and making.

Working in the city, students related image data with known artifacts on the ground and interpreted their topographical narratives into artworks using a variety of approaches from both drawing media and digital devices as resources to collect and construct images, objects, and video.

The exhibit is curated by Kyle White and will feature works by Rachel Engel, Hilary Hoffman, Marlowe Rosenbaum, Rachel Scott, Morgan Slavins, Kyle White, Lianna Wong, Christina Yoo, Daniel Ypsilanti, and William Zajac.

Focus Gallery Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed weekends and academic holidays. Parking is available in reserved spaces behind Fine Arts Building C off Inner Road. Visitor permits are issued to Gallery visitors at the University Gallery, Fine Arts Building B.
