Florida Players announce the second show of their fall 2007 season

October 19, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Players, a theater group sponsored by University of Florida’s Student Government, and artistic director Danny Sharron are pleased to announce the second production of the group’s Fall 2007
season: “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead.”

Showtimes for this limited engagement are 8 p.m. on Oct. 25, 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2 p.m. on Oct. 27, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 28. The performances are free and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved through the Florida Players website at www.floridaplayers.org.

The production marks the University of Florida directorial debut of Ron Shreve, a second-year theatre and psychology major. “Dog Sees God” will be making its University of Florida premiere at the Nadine McGuire Blackbox Theatre.

Good grief! In this hilarious “unauthorized parody” by playwright Bert V. Royal, everyone’s favorite gallery of kids have finally come out of their shells, and the blockhead America has embraced over the years is all grown up. The New York Times says it’s “a welcome antidote to the notion that the Peanuts gang provides merely a slice of American cuteness.” CB’s dog dies from rabies, his sister has gone goth, his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized, and his other friends are too inebriated to provide him any sort of solace. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, and sexual identity collide and careen creating a story that is sure to leave its audience begging for more. “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” is suggested for mature audiences only.

Florida Players is a student-run theater company funded by UF Student Government that provides opportunities for students of all majors to explore the world of theater and showcase their talents in doing so. The organization strives on supplying the University’s artistic student body with ongoing opportunities to expand their knowledge in the field of theatre. They produce plays and musicals throughout each given school year and bring professional artists to speak to members, the most recent being Tony Award nominee, Manoel Felciano.
