Director of UF School of Art and Art History to present Harn Museum gallery talk

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida School of Art and Art History director Anna Calluori Holcombe will present a gallery talk on the exhibition “The Ceramics of Toshiko Takaezu: Function, Form and Surface” at 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 during Museum Nights.

An internationally known ceramic artist, Calluori Holcombe has focused her academic career on teaching, higher education administration and gallery management. She served as head of Kansas State University’s art department for six years before coming to UF in fall 2007.

“The Ceramics of Toshiko Takaezu: Function, Form and Surface” features 15 gifts by one of America’s most eminent ceramists who frequently treats the surfaces of her works like paintings and creates dynamic, abstract designs that give the pieces a strong kinetic energy. The exhibition will be on view through Jan. 20, 2008.

Calluori Holcombe received her bachelor’s degree in art from Montclair(N.J.)State University and her master’s of fine arts in 1977 from Louisiana State University. She has also pursued graduate studies at Illinois State University. She taught at Jersey City (N.J.) State College; Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington; SUNY Brockport, where she served as acting chair from 1989 to 1990; and Kansas State University from 1998 to 2007.
