Create clay pottery at Harn Museum Family Day, Oct. 27

October 16, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Visitors of all ages will discover the joy of forming pottery with clay during a Family Day at the Harn Museum of Art from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. Admission to the event’s exhibit, “The Ceramics of Toshiko Takaezu: Function, Form and Surface,” is free and no registration is necessary.

Born in Hawaii of Japanese descent, Takaezu creates organically shaped closed-form vessels and spherical “moons” with clay. After exploring the exhibition of recent gifts from the artist, visitors will develop their own artistic clay creation with assistance from ceramist and Oak Hall art instructor Gary Bone, who will demonstrate the process of wheel throwing.
