Shelley Meyer to host Gator Growl 2007, announce special guest

September 7, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Shelley Meyer, wife of University of Florida Head Football Coach Urban Meyer, has been chosen to host Gator Growl 2007.

Meyer’s duties as host are already under way. While her husband convenes on the sidelines of Saturday’s game versus Troy, Meyer will unveil the second form of entertainment for Gator Growl 2007 – possibly the best kept secret in Growl history. “I am so excited for this year’s second act,” Meyer said. “Not only to announce it to The Gator Nation, but to watch the historic performance at Growl.”

Meyer said she was honored to be asked by UF students to participate in a production that goes way beyond the typical pep rally and is an intrinsic part of UF’s family atmosphere. “I have been so impressed by the talents and creative ideas of our students at UF,” Meyer said. “There is no comparing Growl to any other school’s pep rally.”

Meyer was chosen to host the show because of her prominence as an active member of the campus and Gainesville community. In addition to her responsibilities as the First Lady of college football, Meyer supervises rotations at UF’s College of Nursing, teaches “spinning” classes at the Gainesville Health & Fitness Center, and is the mother of three children.

Gator Growl 2007: Nation of Champions will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. General public tickets are available through www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 904-353-3309. Student tickets are available at Gate 13 of the stadium or through the G.A.T.O.R.S. hotline 352-384-3262.
