Pulitzer-nominated author to speak on New Orleans disaster on Oct. 6

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – “New Orleans: The City the World Forgot” is a one-day event which will examine how Hurricane Katrina, a man-made disaster, impacted the city of New Orleans.

Several speakers from New Orleans will participate. Chris Rose, a Times-Picayune columnist, will speak on his personal experiences after the hurricane which resulted in his Pulitzer-nominated book, “1 Dead in Attic: After Katrina”. Capt. Mark Willow of the New Orleans Police Department will discuss his experiences working with a severely understaffed police force during the rescue effort.

The colloquium will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 6. in the Reitz Union. Students will have an opportunity to interact with the speakers.
