August 13, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida IT Security Team welcomes all new and returning students and offers some suggestions to help improve their computing experience.

1. Configure automatic updates for the operating system and applications on your computer. See https://infosec.ufl.edu/athome/updates.shtml for step-by-step instructions.

2. Don’t open attachments or follow links in e-mail or instant messages.
See https://infosec.ufl.edu/athome/safe-email.shtml for clues you can use to protect yourself and your computer.

3. Use current anti-virus protection. McAfee VirusScan is available for free to all UF students, faculty and staff. Download it now at http://www.software.ufl.edu/mcafee/ .
