Printmaking thesis exhibition scheduled at Focus Gallery

August 3, 2007

An exhibit that examines the use of new technologies as a tool for the development of communities will be on display Aug. 13 through Sept. 7 at the University of Florida Focus Gallery.

Mary Tillman’s MFA in Printmaking Thesis Exhibition consists of two components that act as a means of making visual and physical the modern structure of the virtual community. The first, Sets & Subsets, is a large, complex artists’ book that uses printmaking to catalogue the artist’s personal involvement in the online social community, MySpace.com. The second, NetWork, is a dynamic installation piece that manifests a virtual community within the physical space of the gallery. Together they examine the possibility of community functioning in both digital and physical spaces.

A reception is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Focus Gallery.

The Focus Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed weekends and academic holidays. Parking is available in reserved spaces behind Fine Arts Building C off Inner Road. Visitor permits are issued to Gallery visitors at the University Gallery, Fine Arts Building B.
