Suicide awareness training offered on July 31

July 13, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Academic & Professional Assembly will host a Suicide Awareness and Intervention training from 3 to 4:30 p.m. July 31, in Room 282 of the Reitz Student Union.

This interactive learning opportunity, led by Wayne Griffin and Natalie Indelicato of the UF Counseling Center, teaches the “question, persuade and refer” life-saving method, recognized as a best practices program by the Joint Commission, an association that strives to improve the safety and quality of health care organizations through accreditation.

The Counseling Center has trained more than 1,700 faculty, staff and students since May 2006, according to Indelicato.

“Just as we encourage everyone to get CPR-certified, we want everyone to go through this training,” said Judy Bousquet, vice chairwoman of the Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition.

The training is free and open to APA members and other UF staff, funded by a grant from the Division of Student Affairs Family Fund.

Seating is limited. Contact Glenn Ketcham at gketcham@ehs.ufl.edu to reserve a place.
