Public invited to watch championship game in O’Connell Center

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida is inviting all Gator fans to the O’Connell Center on Monday evening to watch the men’s basketball team play in the NCAA championship game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 9:21 p.m., live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Fans in Gainesville can gather free of charge in the O’Connell Center, home of the Gators, to watch the action on four big screens.

Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and will remain open until full capacity is reached. No entry will be allowed after the start of the second half. There is no reserved seating.

Concessions will be open, and contests will be held during the evening. The Dazzlers and cheerleaders will perform. The court will be set up as it is for a regular game.

The following items are prohibited: Food or drink containers, bottles, cans, Thermoses, ice bags, ice chests, noise-making devices, flags, umbrellas, strollers, back packs, carry bags, video cameras/cases or any items deemed hazardous by game management personnel. Law enforcement officials have the right to inspect any item at any time for the purpose of spectator safety. Prohibited items must be returned to cars or disposed of before entering the O’Connell Center. There are no provisions to check items at the gates. Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.
