Florida Players reschedules Manoel Felciano master class

March 1, 2007

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Players, the University of Florida’s student-run theater company, will welcome its first Tony Award-nominated guest speaker on March 5 after the originally scheduled mid-February event was canceled because of bad weather in the Northeast.

Manoel Felciano, internationally renowned for his 2006 Tony Award-nominated performance in the recent and successful Broadway revival of “Sweeney Todd,” will teach a master class to UF students at 3:30 p.m. March 5 in the Nadine McGuire Black Box Theatre. His other Broadway credits include “Brooklyn,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Cabaret.”

In the class, Felciano will discuss theater as both an art form and as a career through using his own performance experiences on and off Broadway, on national tours and regionally. Members of Florida Players also will have the opportunity to perform for the Tony-nominated actor and receive critiques by Felciano on their work. A question-and-answer segment will then follow.

All students of every degree major may attend the free class presented by the Florida Players and UF Student Government.

Florida Players is a student-run theater company funded by UF Student Government that provides opportunities for students of all majors to explore the world of theater and showcase their talents in doing so. For more information on Florida Players, visit the Web site at www.floridaplayers.org.
