Fla. Museum offers volunteer opportunities

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — From greeting guests and guiding school groups to working with butterflies or fossils, volunteers play a vital role at the Florida Museum of Natural History. The museum needs help in many areas and will conduct volunteer orientations from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month through the end of the year.

Preregistration is required. Interested adults may learn more about and apply for current museum volunteer opportunities, including docenting, horticulture, fossil digs and more. No experience is necessary and training is provided. Scheduled dates are Feb. 8, March 8, April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8 and Dec. 13.

For students ages 12-17 interested in working as Junior Volunteers during the summer, applications will be available online at www.flmnh.ufl.edu/volunteers/, or at the museum front desk beginning March 1. The deadline for junior volunteer applications is April 20.
