UF workshop to examine results of 2006 elections, impact on 2008

January 22, 2007

WHO: Noted academics, journalists and political consultants, including some with ties to possible 2008 presidential contenders, will gather for a workshop hosted by the University of Florida Graduate Program in Political Campaigning.

WHAT: The group will discuss the implications of the 2006 election and look ahead to what can be expected in 2008. Florida has been a key state in the outcomes of the last two presidential elections and figures to play a similar role in 2008.

Participants in the morning panel (9:30 to 11:45 a.m.), including two reporters who covered the 2000 and 2004 campaigns, will share their insights into how and why 2006 was different, both in Florida and nationwide. The afternoon panel (1:15 to 3:30 p.m.) will include several consultants who work on the national level. They and other participants will provide some sense of the current front-runners, the dark horses and the challenges both parties face as they compete for control of the White House and Congress in 2008.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.

WHERE: Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, 1714 S.W. 34th St., Gainesville.
