First Internship Roundtables offer students personal conversation with employers

January 18, 2007

Gainesville, Fla. – The Internship Roundtables, sponsored by the Career Resource Center at the University of Florida, provides students with information about the importance and benefits of internships and tips on how to be a successful intern. The roundtable discussions will take place at 6 p.m., Jan. 23, in the Grand Ballroom of Reitz Student Union. This will be the first such discussions offering students a personal conversation with a number of employers.

“We really tried to make this a more one-on-one interaction between the students and the employers,” said Sarah Milligan, graduate assistant for experiential education. “We are aiming to do something more personal in order to meet the needs of both the students and employers.”

The roundtable discussions will consist of seven roundtables with two employers each. Students will be assigned to different tables and employers will rotate after a 10- to 15-minute session.

Employers will include representatives from engineering firms; advertising, public relations and nonprofit agencies; and other businesses and industries. They will answer questions related to searching for an internship, including researching companies, preparing resumes and securing internships.

“We made some changes this year to allow students to have more face time with employers,” Milligan said. “We hope that students are informed about internships and have their industry-specific questions answered.”
