Warrington College of Business taps Sevilla for assistant dean

December 4, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Alexander Sevilla has been appointed assistant dean and director of MBA programs at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business. He will be managing operations and strategy for nine program offerings.

Sevilla joined the program in 1998 as director of student services. In 2003, he was promoted to director of executive and professional MBA programs and became responsible for all MBA programs two years later. Under his leadership, Florida has developed a premier program ranked consistently in the world’s top 3 percent.

“We’ve had a strategy in place for the past few years that has worked well for us,” Sevilla said. “It is of primary importance that we continue to raise the bar for the program.”

In its first appearance on the Financial Times MBA rankings in 2006, Florida gained a top 10 position in the value category. The 2007 Princeton Review survey of the top 10 business schools ranked Florida’s MBA program sixth in the nation, higher than Stanford, Yale and Harvard.

In his new position, Sevilla will work with faculty to hone the full-time curriculum and continue to market the MBA program to bring in exceptional candidates from around the country.

“Focusing on quality in the full-time program has been very important to us,” he said. “We are fortunate to be in a position where we can continue to be selective.”
