Venetian-based Interpreti Veneziani sets U.S. premiere at UF

December 20, 2006

GAINESVILLE, FL – Interpreti Veneziani makes its U.S. premiere at the University of Florida with a 4 p.m. Jan. 14 performance at the University Auditorium. A pre-performance discussion with Howard Rothman will be held at 3 p.m.

Venice is a city filled with beauty, redolent with romance and teeming with mystery. It is a city of thousands of images, aromas and sounds. No group captures the city of Venice better than Interpreti Veneziani.

Accomplished solo performers, the combined talents of the ensemble make the group a force with which to be reckoned. Playing original instruments and specializing in mostly Baroque music, Interpreti Veneziani has been praised by audiences and critics alike. The group’s international appearances are numerous, with performances at the Bayreuth Festival and at Stockholm’s Royal Palace during the “Winter Festival,” in Leningrad’s Belozelsky Hall and at the Osaka Symphony Hall in Japan. With 15 albums to its credit, all on the Rivo Alto label, the group also has performed in Australia, Istanbul, Venezuela and the Bahamas.

Even though Interpreti Veneziani feels that no one represents Venice better than Vivaldi, the group’s Jan. 14th concert also will feature works written by Corelli, Pugnani-Kreisler, Haendel and de Sarasate. After its stop in Gainesville, the group’s U.S tour will continue to Arizona, California and New York.
