Drop/add extended; O'Connell Center to show BCS game

December 8, 2006

University of Florida students will have a longer drop/add period for the spring semester because of the Tostitos BCS National Championship on the first day of classes, Jan. 8.

UF will not cancel classes, but the administration is urging faculty and staff to make it easier for any students who attend the game in Arizona to make up missed work, UF President Bernie Machen announced today. The drop/add period will be extended from Jan. 12 to 5 p.m. Jan. 16 to give all students more opportunity to make decisions about their spring courses.

UF also will open the O’Connell Center the evening of Jan. 8 for a game-watching event similar to the one that was held when the men’s basketball team played for the NCAA national championship in April.

Anyone presenting a Gator One ID card is welcome to bring a guest and watch the game with thousands of other Gator fans. The doors to the O’Connell Center will open at 6:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

UF officials also remind fans that because Jan. 8 is a regular class day, tailgating on campus will not be permitted.
