Living Well, Healthy Gators 2010 to host 'Taste of the Holidays'

November 6, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida employees can sample healthy holiday cooking Thursday, Nov. 9, at “Taste of the Holidays,” an event sponsored by Living Well Faculty and Staff Wellness Center, and Healthy Gators 2010.

Employees can munch on free samples of low-fat pumpkin cheesecake, skinny mashed potatoes and roasted lamb from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Yon Hall Room 4. A tour of Living Well will be given to any interested guests.

“With the holidays quickly approaching, most people have a tendency to settle into the routine of eating too much and exercising too little,” Living Well Director Cassie Howard. “In addition to finding ways to cut calories and fat in holiday food favorites, it is important to keep up your exercise routine.”

The first 250 guests will receive a free recipe booklet, courtesy of Healthy Gators 2010 and Living Well.

The booklet contains low-fat alternatives for a variety of traditional holiday foods, as well as cooking tips, Howard said.

“Eating low-fat foods doesn’t mean low taste,” Howard said.

Howard said Living Well offers convenient group fitness classes during lunch breaks and directly after work for its members. Living Well also is filled with state-of-the-art equipment for its members, which is limited to UF employees and retired faculty.
