Joseph Glover named interim dean of CLAS

Joseph Glover, associate provost for academic affairs, will become interim dean of the University of Florida’sCollege of Liberal Arts and Sciences on Jan. 1, Provost Janie Fouke announced Monday.

Associate provost since 2001, Glover’s responsibilities have included enrollment management, tenure and promotion, and faculty affairs. He chaired the Task Force on the Future of the University of Florida, participated in developing the university strategic plan, and represents UF on the executive board of the New World School of the Arts. Glover served as interim provost and senior vice president from December 2004 through August 2005.

Glover’s relationship with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dates back to 1982, when he was named an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics. He was department chair from 1993 to 1998 and associate dean for faculty affairs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences from 1998 to 2001. Glover will succeed Dean Neil Sullivan, who has served as dean of the college since 2001.

A native of New York, Glover received his B.A. from Cornell University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from theUniversity of California, San Diego. He taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Rochester before joining the University of Florida faculty. He also held an NSF postdoctoral fellowship at UCSD in 1982. His awards include an NSF postdoctoral fellowship in the mathematical sciences, an NSF-CNRS fellowship held at the Universite de Grenoble II, a CLAS Teaching Award and a mentoring award from the McKnight Foundation.
