Florida Players stages final production of fall season

November 27, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Players, the University of Florida’s student-run theater company, continues to move at full throttle with the final installment of its fall 2006 season, “30 Neo-Futurists Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind.” The group will be producing this high-paced series of short plays through special arrangement with the show’s creator, Greg Allen, and its writers, the Neo-Futurists. The Neo-Futurists are known internationally for their involvement in another popular show, “Urinetown,” a musical that found its way to the Broadway stage in 2001.

“30 Neo-Futurists Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind” is a performance of 30 plays in 60 minutes. The single unifying element of these plays is that they are performed from a perspective of absolute honesty. All 30 plays have been honed by a cast of UF students. No two shows will be alike as the audience chooses the order in which the plays are presented.

The production will be staged in four free performances Dec. 1-3 at the Phillips Center’s Black Box Theatre. Show times are 8 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2, and 2 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3. To reserve tickets, send an e-mail to tickets@floridaplayers.org.

Florida Players is funded by UF Student Government and allows students of all majors to explore the world of theater. The organization offers opportunities to its members in all aspects of theater from directing, designing, performing and playwriting to administrative positions.
