Anonymous 4 with Darol Anger, Scott Nygaard to perform at UF

November 9, 2006

GAINESVILLE, FL – Anonymous 4 will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 19, in the University Auditorium as a part of the “Long Time Traveling” tour with Darol Anger and Scott Nygaard. A pre-performance discussion is planned for 3 p.m.

Combining historical and literary scholarship with virtuoso musical skill, Anonymous 4 has carved out a special niche for itself. Group members Marsha Genensky, Susan Hellauer, Jacqueline Horner and Johanna Maria Rose have sung everything from American folk tunes to Renaissance ballads to medieval and classical music.

“Long Time Traveling” is an ode to Americana and features work from “Gloryland” as well as its predecessor, “American Angels.” With folk songs, religious ballads, shape-note tunes and spiritual and gospel hymns, “Long Time Traveling” pays homage to the early American settlers who passed along culture traditions, beliefs and music through their music. Backed by Darol Anger on fiddles and mandolin and Scott Nygaard on guitar, the group – whose voices have been described as “ethereal” – performs songs such as “Poor Wayfaring Stranger,” “Shall We Gather at the River” and “Just Over in the Gloryland.”
