UFPA co-commissions special production

October 4, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Performing Arts (UFPA) is doing its part to help UF become a Top 10 public university by providing an unparalleled cultural and educational experience.

In addition to presenting performances, UFPA helps in their creation through its co-commissioning efforts. Co-commissioned by UFPA, Mikel Rouse’s “The End of Cinematics” will be presented Oct. 11 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

“The End of Cinematics” examines the contemporary state of film and media, and how this affects our lives. A cutting-edge, boundary-breaking performance, it turns Hollywood-style special effects inside out with a mosaic of real and virtual sets, multiple video screens, six live actors and a score flavored with Beatle-esque, electronic and hip-hop sounds.

Elizabeth Auer, assistant director of UFPA, knows firsthand that everything Rouse does is “in large scale – the music and set, you don’t have to try to become a part of it, it simply pulls you in. With a strong belief in the artist and his goals, UFPA co-commissioned this piece, bringing us one step closer to our goal of being a leader in the field and offering a new and innovative way of looking at the arts.”
