UF to dedicate keynote speech to local community activist

What: Author Carl Hiaasen’s keynote speech for the University of Florida Campus and Community Sustainability Conference

Who: UF will dedicate Hiaasen’s speech to Doris Bardon, a Gainesville environmental and community activist, who died Oct. 13 at the age of 86. Bardon was a Gainesville/Alachua County community leader whose many contributions to the North Central Florida area included helping to found Women for Wise Growth and the Gainesville Chamber Orchestra. She and co-author Murray Laurie wrote “Creative Leadership for Community Problem Solving.” Bardon was a regular columnist in various publications who brought attention to improving schools, cleaner environment, social justice and racial equality.
