Faculty Development Conversations for Fall begin Sept. 19

September 14, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The fall 2006 Faculty Development “Conversations About …” series starts Sept. 19 with “Thinking Outside the Box.”

This dialogue is intended to spark conversation about ways to encourage and support interdisciplinary research at the University of Florida. All members of the UF community interested in this subject are asked to join a panel of highly acclaimed researchers for afternoon refreshments and discussion.

This two-hour conversation starts at 3 p.m. in Room 282 of the Reitz Student Union

Vice President for Research Win Phillips and Provost Janie Fouke will join a distinguished panel of faculty members — including Brij M. Moudgil, professor of materials science and engineering; Laurie Gower, associate professor of materials and science engineering; and Lou Guillette, professor of zoology — to share ideas with faculty about ways to achieve UF’s interdisciplinary research objectives.

Two more discussions are planned for Oct. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Nov. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. These conversations offer an opportunity to discuss how successful implementation of shared governance at UF might be managed, and ways to sharpen the university’s recruitment of talented and diverse faculty, respectively. Both “Conversations” will be held in Emerson Alumni Hall.
