Federal lawmakers, industry leaders to attend UF Energy Forum

WHO: U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Bartow, state Sen. Mike Bennett, R-Bradenton, University of Florida President Bernie Machen and representatives from utilities, energy companies and others with an interest in alternative energy research and production.

WHAT: “Florida’s Road to Energy Independence: The Promise of Alternative Fuels.” Forum about alternative energy production in Florida, with an emphasis on alternative fuels that could augment or replace gasoline and other fossil fuels. The University of Florida is a leading developer of technology to convert “woody biomass” such as timber and lawn waste into ethanol – and Florida is the nation’s leading producer of that biomass. UF scientists will appear as panelists to discuss this and other promising Florida-based alternative fuel technologies.
