Tickets go on sale Saturday for Tom Petty concert

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will return home for the first time in 13 years when the band performs at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the O’Connell Center.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22. They may be purchased at all TicketMaster outlets, the University Box Office-Reitz Student Union, University Charge by Phone at 352-392-1653, the Oaks Mall information booth, at www.ticketmaster.com and through TicketMaster charge by phone at 904-353-3309.

The University Box Office will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets for all reserved seats will be $59.50 for the floor and levels 1 and 2, and $45.50 for a level 2 side stage view and all of level 3 (plus service charges). For any additional information, please call the O’Connell Center at (352)392-5500 or the University Box Office at (352)392-1653.

Also performing Sept. 21 will be The Strokes.

Over the past 30 years, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have sold more than 50 million records, have been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 (which was the first year the band was eligible).

Late last year, Billboard magazine presented Petty with its 2005 Century Award, which is the publication’s highest honor for creative achievement. Petty won two Grammy Awards. The first one was in 1989 for “Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.” Petty, who collaborated with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison, won for the album “Traveling Wilburys Volume One.” His second Grammy came in 1995 for “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” for “You Don’t Know How It Feels.”
