New WUFT/TV show highlights arts, culture in North Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — “Gallery,” a new monthly program designed to promote and reflect the rich art and cultural resources of the North Florida community, can be seen twice this weekend on WUFT/TV.

“Gallery,” hosted by Tony Mata, a University of Florida associate professor and chair of the bachelor of fine arts program in music theater, features subjects ranging from still life to dance and from theater seat to sidewalk booth. The premiere episode features:

  • Santa Fe Community College 2006 Spring Arts Festival;
  • Evinston to Cross Creek Paint Out showcasing the Florida’s Oldest Post Office and local painter Linda Pence;
  • Makare African Dance Troupe;
  • Behind-the-scenes look at the Gainesville Community Playhouse Vam York Theater.

Each month, “Gallery” will review performances and highlight upcoming activities. Frank Counts serves as executive producer, and Scott Cole is producer. The episode can be seen at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, and at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 21.
