UF faculty receive Internationalizing the Curriculum awards

April 3, 2006

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — As part of the continuing effort to meet the University of Florida’s strategic goal of internationalizing the campus and curriculum, the UF International Center (UFIC), along with the Transnational and Global Studies Center (TGSC) and Research and Graduate Programs (RGP), granted 21 awards of up to $3,000 to UF faculty for proposals that add international components to an existing course or create new courses with substantial international content.

The awards, which are granted annually, provide support for courses from faculty throughout the campus in areas such as agronomy, engineering, political science and law. The courses will be implemented in the 2006-2007 academic year.

“The awards are a reminder of the amazing breadth and depth of the research conducted by our faculty members, who cover every discipline and area of the world,” said Dennis Jett, dean of the International Center. “For that reason, it is a pleasure to be able to support these awards along with Vice President for Research Win Phillips.”

UFIC granted six awards for courses dealing with international topics or regions of the world outside of the United States and three awards for the development of study abroad courses. In addition, TGSC funded four proposals that focus on transnational or global issues and RGP granted eight awards for courses with a research component.

“Internationalizing the Curriculum Awards is a strategic issue for the University of Florida,” said Phillips. “We are very pleased with this program and look forward to continued outstanding success.”

Since 2003, UFIC, along with the Partnership in Global Learning, RGP, and TGSG, has granted 72 awards to internationalize 84 courses.
